  • Data available from the drop-down menu above are based on the 2000 Census.
  • An * listed on any of the Labor Force/Workforce Summaries means data is not available because of disclosure suppression.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The release of January data incorporates revised labor force and unemployment numbers from 2007 to 2008. Labor force and unemployment data are updated every year to reflect additional data inputs and estimation techniques. Data is based on the same methodology used by all states and are produced in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Users should use caution when comparing labor force and unemployment estimates for the current year with those for prior years.
  • Additional information on annual revisions to historical data (benchmarking) can be found on the Bureau of Labor Statistics web site: (http://www.bls.gov/lau/launews1.htm)
  • Data for 2000-2002 was benchmarked in 2006; Data for 2003-2006 was benchmarked in 2007.
  • Population controls, updated in January of 2006 to reflect Census 2000, introduced a level shift in data between December 1999 and January 2000. Time-series comparisons should be made with caution.
  • Workforce employment estimates are not comparable to estimates prior to 2001 due to a 2003 change to the industry classification system for work force employment estimates. The classification change from the Standard Industry Classification (SIC) system to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) caused a break in the data series for work force employment estimates. For more information on the North American Industry Classification System, visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics web site.

These statistics were developed by Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS), a Federal-State cooperative program. The monthly statistics derived from this program provide four estimates: labor force, employment, unemployment and the unemployment rate. Visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics LAUS program website (http://www.bls.gov/lau/home.htm) if you need additional information.
