Sequestration Reduces Extended Unemployment Benefits |

Federal sequestration will result in a 19.38 percent reduction in federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) effective May 5. The reduction is based on the automatic spending cuts mandated by the 2011 Federal Budget Control Act. EUC is an extended benefit program for qualifying jobseekers who have exhausted their regular unemployment insurance benefits. The reduction applies to new EUC claims. Unemployment claimants who are already receiving EUC benefits will not see their benefits reduced. Individuals who will potentially qualify for EUC were notified of the reduction. Regular unemployment insurance benefits, which are funded by Nebraska employers, are not affected by sequestration. All claimants receiving EUC or filing an EUC claim are required to: |
